Summer Placement 2017

A summer placement within our company offers a Pharmacy Student the opportunity to build their community pharmacy skills as an integral part of the pharmacy team. A six-week placement will be offered to students who have completed year 2 or 3 of their MPharm degree.

The placement student will support the pharmacist and pharmacy team, bringing knowledge learned as part of their degree, and give the student exposure to our community pharmacies and the services offered.

As well as dispensing prescriptions and providing advice, we also deliver these services:

  • Medicines Use Reviews (MUR)
  • New Medicines Service (NMS)
  • Methadone supervision
  • The "Morning After Pill" (EOHC)
  • Smoking Cessation clinics
  • Minor Ailments Service (aka Care at the Chemist)

Our summer placement will strive to progress our students through the Medicines Counter Assistant course offered by our training company of choice Buttercups. The Medicine Counter Assistant (MCA) course covers the classification of medicines, the use of 2 WHAM questions, abuse and misuse of medicines, referral to the pharmacist and product knowledge.

This course is an integral part of our Pre-Registration training and provides a head start on those wishing to complete their Pre-Registration training within community pharmacy.

A link to this course information can be found here:

Completion of this course would be expected within the six week placement, and this combined with the practical hands-on approach of work within our pharmacies, will well equip our students to progress through the further years of their degree and Pre-Registration training with confidence in this area.
